ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 1, 2025) – It’s the end of an era in Zeeland city government on Monday evening.
Kevin Klynstra will gavel the Zeeland City Council business meeting to order at 7 PM in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall, but he will then relinquish oversight of the governing panel to Rick Van Dorp shortly thereafter, as he retires from public service after seven two-year terms at Mayor, and three decades on Council.
Klynstra does see some issues ahead that Van Dorp and his council colleagues will have to deal with.
Van Dorp will be just the third Zeeland Mayor in 36 years, following in the footsteps of Klynstra and Les Hoogland, who was that municipality’s longest-serving elected leader with 11 two-year terms.
