FERRYSBURG, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 24, 2025) – A 41-year-old Spring Lake woman is expected to recover from injuries suffered when her vehicle went into Smith’s Bayou during the overnight hours of Wednesday.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies were apparently on patrol near West Spring Lake Road and Lakeview Drive shortly before 3:30 AM when they heard the unnamed woman shouting for help. It appeared that the motorist was driving southbound when her vehicle collided with what was only described as “Ferrysburg Utilities,” went over an embankment, and into the water. The woman was able to get out of her vehicle, swam to shore, and yelled for help.
Deputies and Ferrysburg Fire Department staffers made extensive efforts to confirm that there were no only occupants in the vehicle, as well as no other victims in the water or on shore. The driver was taken by Trinity Health EMS to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
No details as to any other circumstances surrounding the incident were immediately disclosed, as the matter remains under investigation.
