BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 24, 2026) – More information has emerged following a fatal predawn crash west of Hudsonville last Tuesday (Feb. 17).
On Monday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that 59-year-old Toni Laws of Zeeland died, while her 56-year-old husband David was critically injured, when their SUV was broadsided by a dairy tanker in a collision around 5:15 AM at the junction of Port Sheldon Street and 72nd Avenue. Deputies say that the tanker, driven by an unnamed 54-year-old man from Butler, Kentucky, was northbound when he apparently drove through a four-way stop at the intersection and crashed into the smaller vehicle, which had halted and then proceeded forward. The force of the collision caused both vehicles to land in a ditch.
Mrs. Laws, who was a passenger in the SUV, succumbed at the scene, while her husband, who was behind the wheel, had to be extricated by rescue workers and taken to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital, where he continued to be treated a week after the incident. The trucker went to Corewell-Zeeland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
