HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 13, 2026) – The value of preparing for an active attack was evident in Thursday’s incident at a suburban Detroit Jewish school.
The FBI is now leading the investigation into the attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, in which a 41-year-old man drove a truck into the building, igniting a fire that hospitalized at least 30 first responders for smoke inhalation. Federal agents conducted a Active Shooter Attack Prevention and Preparedness session there in January, spotlighting “Run, Hide, Fight” survival principles, and showing ways to make life-saving decisions in an active threat. Officials with Temple Israel say teachers and staff followed their training from this session, helping to make all 140 students, staff, teachers and security personnel safe and accounted for.
A similar Citizens Repsonse to an Active Shooter Event seminar is coming to the Holland Department of Public Safety’s police headquarters (89 W. 8th St.) on Saturday, April 11th, from 10 AM-12:30 PM, according to Community Policing Officer Rod Mendoza.
The Holland class is free and open to those 18 years of age or older, with an online link to register here.
