Gladys (Dyke) Steketee went home to be with her LORD and Savior on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age of 100.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Milton Steketee, her parents Egbert and Helen (Jaarda) Dyke and two brothers, Justin and Katheryn and Howard and his wives Anita and Hazel, and one sister, Julia and Jay Van Faasen. Gladys graduated from Holland High School in 1943 where she excelled in basketball, tennis, and ping pong tournaments.
She attended La Parent School of Cosmetology in Grand Rapids and immediately upon graduation purchased and became proprietor of the Washington Square Barber and Beauty Shop, which she owned for over 30 years.
She volunteered many hours painting for the Holland Christian School Circle Bazaars. Gladys and Milt spent many years with friends and family at their cottage on Lake Michigan, enjoying the sunsets and sail boating on summer days.
She is survived by her children: Woody and Sandra Steketee, Del and Patricia Steketee, and Pauline and Rick Rypma; Grandchildren: Roylin and Shanielle Rypma, Benjamin and Michelle Rypma, Kristine and Justin VanderKooy, Lynae Steketee and Jon Gesink, Kara Higgs, Tyler Steketee and Alexus Bogoian and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Marilyn Steketee and Coral Swierenga.
Glady’s family would like to thank the staff of Resthaven Cottages for the love and care they showed while she was a resident.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Holland Christian Schools.
