SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2026) – With spring already here, and summer just over the proverbial horizon, a Lakeshore community known for being a tourist destination is getting ready for a busy time of year.
During Wednesday afternoon’s workshop, the Saugatuck City Council is expected to go over two proposals for reconstructing the existing Chain Ferry landings and installing new structures on both sides of the Kalamazoo River. Tier I services and Diversified Welding submitted plans that are about a thousand dollars in difference, both being in the neighborhood of 35-36 thousand dollars, and the city has set aside $80,000 for the project. The city’s Historic District Commission must also approve of any proposal before the rebuilding can begin.
Also on the workshop agenda is an agreement framework for Oval Beach concessions, as well as updates to the city’s policy for leasing boat slips at Wicks Park, and several proposals for a city-wide survey and management plan to address invasive species. No final decisions will be made during this 4 PM session, in the second-floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.).
