PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 10, 2026) – The efforts to strengthen safety in the waters of Lake Macatawa continue.
On Wednesday, members of the US Coast Guard’s Aids to Navigation Team came to the body of water just off of Lake Michigan to conduct seasonal buoy changes and maintenance. Over a four-day period, these staffers will be using a 49-foot buoy tender to handle the annual effort in maintaining the safety and reliability of local waterways.
The crew is utilizing the dock and facilities at the newly-branded Park Township Fire Department’s Marine Division Station for this operation. The former Coast Guard headquarters off of Ottawa Beach Road was purchased by the municipality in February for $1.4 million, and a scheduled ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the site is slated for later this month.
Boaters on Lake Macatawa have been asked to use caution and maintain a safe distance from Coast Guard personnel and equipment during this buoy tender operation effort.
