HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 16, 2026) – While a review of a proposed Fiscal 2027 municipal budget afterward may have overshadowed Wednesday night’s biweekly Holland City Council meeting, a matter of everyday importance to residents of the Tulip City was addressed during the business session.
Mayor Nathan Bocks and his fellow Council members unanimously agreed on a new five-year contract with Republic Services to continue providing residential solid waste collection services, including refuse, recycling, and yard waste pickup, with an option for three additional years.
Council also held a public hearing ahead of approving Industrial Facilities Tax Abatement requests for Rota Technologies, who wants to utilize around 19,000 square feet at a facility off of West 64th Street for upgrading its products and services for the poultry industry, as well as in robotics for various other industries.
After the business meeting was over, the governing panel huddled with city staff to begin two evenings of going over several hundred pages of a proposed spending plan of nearly $38 million from the general fund, taking about $300,000 from reserves to balance the books. City Manager Keith Van Beek said beforehand that he would classify the financial blueprint as a “maintenance” budget.
