PORT SHELDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 18, 2026) – The identity of a 21-year-old Grand Rapids man, who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash between Holland and Grand Haven around dawn 10 days ago, has been disclosed.
On Saturday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Escobar Cruz was the motorist who was driving his vehicle westbound on Port Sheldon Street west of 152nd Avenue, in an area where the roadway was being reconstructed, around 7 AM on April 8th. This is where the road is one half being sand and the other half gravel.
Cruz’ vehicle was in the eastbound gravel lane when, for an undisclosed reason, it veered to the right and into the sand. It then lost control, rolled over, and the apparently unbuckled driver was thrown out of the window to his death at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch (800-249-0911) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
