HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 1, 2026) – A Holland man, initially described only in his late 60’s, lost his life in a fire around dawn on Friday.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Operations, first responders were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of York Avenue, near the West 32nd Street-Van Raalte Avenue intersection, around 6:45 AM on a report of a garage fire. They found the victim’s body inside, and the blaze apparently self-extinguished.
No origin, or cause of the fire was immediately determined, and a dollar estimate is pending. Fire Marshal Bret Groendyke hasn’t ruled out classifying the incident as accidental, caused by smoking. Damage was contained to the garage area.
The incident remains under investigation.
