LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 13, 2026) – There may be some clarity on a controversial topic in a Lakeshore community on Wednesday evening.
During the monthly Laketown Township Board of Trustees monthly meeting, the governing panel will consider proposed changes to a short-term rental ordinance. If approved, it would prohibit all new stand-alone homes to be used as STR in all residential zoning districts, while those already licensed to be in existence would be allowed to continue operations under rules which were in place when their license was approved. Additional regulations and enforcement would be taken up by township planners once this ordinance is enacted.
There has been a moratorium on short term rentals in the township since discussion on these proposed changes began last year, with that restriction set to expire on June 30th. Six months ago, Chairman Chad Nienhuis and his fellow planning commission members held a joint meeting with township trustees to discuss the matter.
The 6 PM Laketown Township Board meeting is at the township hall (4338 Beeline Rd.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
