LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 22, 2026) – There will be a Lakeshore presence as the newest members of the Michigan State Police force are sworn in.
Among 61 who will graduate from the 150th Trooper Recruit School, in a ceremony at the Lansing Center on Friday afternoon, are: Gerrit Groenendyk of Holland, who will be assigned initially to the Wayland post; Kyle Roman of Plainwell, who will be assigned initially to the West Branch post; Paul Theodore of Hamilton, who will be assigned initially to the Paw Paw post; and Jacob Visscher of Saugatuck, who will be assigned initially to the Alpena post.
The recruits began their journey at the residential training academy in Lansing in January, where they received nearly 1,200 hours of hands-on, lecture, and scenario-based instruction. They will join over 11 hundred troopers assigned statewide, and around 18 hundred enlisted members of the MSP. The next two recruit schools – one for experienced, licensed police officers, and the other for newcomers to law enforcement, gets underway in July.
