LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 4, 2026) – A smelly situation south of Holland could be addressed soon.
On Wednesday evening, the Laketown Township Planning Commission recommended that composting operations by Cocoa Corporation at the Republic Services site off of 60th Street be terminated. This stems from long-term complaints by residents of odors emanating from there, and in April. the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy found Cocoa in violation of state regulations.
Township legal counsel Ron Bultje told board members in a workshop beforehand what course of action could be taken on the matter.
Trustees are expected to address the issue at its monthly meeting next Wednesday.
