Berneth “Bernie” R. Grigsby, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by the care and comfort of his family in the early hours of Monday, June 15, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara “Barb” Grigsby, his daughter Camie Kay Grigsby, and his parents Hattie and Berneth Grigsby.
Bernie is lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law Ward and Kari Grigsby, and his granddaughters, Felicia (Travis) Sale, Hanna (Alan) Zeiler, Emma Veenman, and his orange kitty Mac.
Bernie worked for BASF//Flint Ink for 42 years and was an honorary life member of the Holland Elks Club. Bernie had a passion for being in nature where he enjoyed trout fishing and gardening. He spent many summers at his cabin in northern Michigan casting his line and enjoying the solitude. He found great joy in tending his garden, which was famous for its tomato harvest. Bernie was an expert bowler who played in many leagues over the years, and he passed down his love of the game to his son Ward. He was a huge fan of the MLB and enjoyed many Sunday family dinners with a game on and a beer in hand. Go Red Sox!
Bernie will be remembered fondly by those close to him for his witty sense of humor, sarcastic quips, and playful comebacks, along with his unwavering strength. Above all Bernie loved and cherished his family, who were his greatest source of pride and joy.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Bernie will be laid to rest next to his wife Barb at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland, Michigan. Memorial contributions in memory of Bernie can be made to Harbor Humane Society.
