LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State lawmakers will be banned from registering as lobbyists for two years after their term ends under bills approved by lawmakers early Friday morning.
The House bills are part of Speaker Matt Hall’s Ethics, Accountability and Transparency, or HEAT, list of priorities to cut special interest influence in Lansing.
The bills also put governors, lieutenant governors, and department directors under the same two-year ban.
Hall, a Richland Republican, says he is “really proud that we finally got a victory on another element of HEAT” to close the revolving door and stop politicians from being lobbyists when they leave office.
