HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM, Jul. 17, 2026) – Organizers of outdoor activities along the Lakeshore are erring on the side of caution in the midst of the Air Quality Alert for the entire state due to smoke wafting from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota.
Latin Americans United for Progress canceled its participation in Thursday night’s Downtown Holland Street Performer Series, which was part of its five-day Fiesta event, and it’s Friday night concert at Kollen Park could also be imperiled by the atmospheric conditions.
On Saturday, the annual Macatawa Water Festival is slated at Kollen Park, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It’s intended to be a celebration of Lake Macatawa and its watershed, according to Lexie Kasper, Land and Water Outreach Coordinator with the ODC Network, which is putting on this free event.
Forecasters believe that most of the smoke should clear the state by Saturday morning as weather conditions change.
