HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 6, 2026) – It wasn’t a long meeting, taking around a half hour, but the Holland City Council was taking a glimpse into the future during Wednesday night’s business session.
The governing panel first approved an August 19th public hearing date for a proposed amending of a Brownfield Plan. This would address the redevelopment of a former office building site, off of Ottawa Avenue and West 20th Street, into a combination of a self-storage structure, as well as four residential dwellings, comprising a total of 11 townhomes, to be sold by Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity and Jubilee Ministries.
During the comment period at the end of the meeting, Assistant City Manager Matt Van Dyken discussed the latest developments into a proposed $26 million, 86 thousand square-foot recreation center at Smallenburg Park, adjacent to the Ray and Sue Smith Stadium site.
Those bids are due by August 19th.
