OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 14, 2026) – It’s still three weeks before the Labor Day holiday weekend begins, but it’s not too early to start enhanced road enforcement efforts.
Increased patrols of state police troopers, along with county sheriff’s deputies and local law enforcement officers, will be on major highways and roadways, beginning on Friday, looking to cut down on impaired, distracted, and reckless motoring. The theme for this 25-day initiative is “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” explains Ottawa County Sheriff’s Road Patrol Sergeant Mike Vandenbosch.
Federal funding for the extra staffing is being funneled through the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, looking to cut down on 46 driver fatalities statewide over the last five Labor Day holiday weekends, with nearly two out of five of those coming in impaired driving situations.
