LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 17, 2026) – As a new school year approaches, the effort to provide safety with assured security for students, teachers and staff in Michigan schools has been augmented.
Last Friday, 26 law enforcement officers from eight county sheriffs’ offices, 18 local police departments, and one from Lancaster, Pennsylvania participated in a five-day-long Teaching, Educating, and Mentoring School Liaison Program, held by the Michigan State Police in Lansing. During the 40 hours of instruction, attendees received instruction in student-juvenile psychology, classroom management, and public speaking. Among the departments who sent members to this seminar were the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Grandville Police Department.
The TEAM curriculum, which includes personal safety, assessing facilities for safety and security, bullying and harassment, cyber-crime, social media use, illicit drugs and more, is currently being implemented in over 250 school districts across Michigan, as well as in several other states.
