DEARBORN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 15, 2026) – So much for a break in gas prices after Labor Day.
Triple A’s daily canvassing of stations, as of dawn on Tuesday morning, showed a statewide average of $4.44 per gallon and a national mean of $4.33. The Michigan mark is a 12-cent jump in 24 hours, 42 cents higher than last week, 17 cents more than a month ago, and a $1.40 above what was seen at this time in 2025.
The biggest culprit appears to be crude oil futures, according to Adrienne Woodland with the Auto Club Group in Dearborn.
That offset any gains which reduced demand following the holiday.
A six-month-long labor dispute at the Whiting, Indiana refinery, which supplies most of the fuel to West Michigan, hasn’t helped the situation either.
As for prices along the Lakeshore, Ottawa County’s $4.52 average is three cents above that of neighboring Allegan County, seven cents more than Muskegon County, and a penny higher than Kent County.
