Gene Arnold “Arnie” Westveer of Holland passed away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. He was 92.
Arnie was born in Manton, MI, to Edward and Alice (VanderVelde) Westveer. He was married to Janet (Parsons) Westveer for 68 years before her death in 2023. Arnie spent his youth and lived in the Muskegon area until moving to Holland in 1965. He was a well-known meat cutter in the Holland area, working at various supermarkets and finally retiring from Huizenga’s Food Market of Zeeland in 1989. His interests varied to include harness racing, golf, motorcycling, and restoring old cars and scooters. His later years focused on friends and family, taking them out for breakfast, visiting them at various nursing homes around town, or picking them up to go out for coffee. Arnie had a passion for gardening and he worked tirelessly to supply his friends and neighbors with fresh vegetables. He was Christian man and an active supporter of Central Wesleyan Church for over 60 years.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Westveer, eldest son, Gene Westveer, his sister, Lois Bush, and baby sister, Helen.
Arnold is survived by his children Ken (Roxanne) Westveer, Tad (Sharon) Westveer, Tim (Janell) Westveer, and his brother Dan (Shirley) Westveer. He had eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00-11:00am Monday, September 28, 2026, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. A memorial service, with Rev. Lynn Bruce officiating, will follow at 11:00am. There will be a light lunch to follow. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery.
