HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2026) – A 27-year-old Holland man is in custody on charges stemming from a fatal three-vehicle pileup earlier this summer.
William Thomas Blanchard remains held on $10,000 bond following a Monday arraignment in 58th District Court on a count of reckless driving causing death. He was driving a pickup truck during the afternoon of July 31st westbound on 7th Street when he slammed into a sedan heading south on Central Avenue, driven by 83-year-old Harold Koning of Holland. Blanchard’s truck then careened into an electric vehicle that was also heading west.
Koning and Blanchard were both taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of their injuries, where the older man died. A 35-year-old Wyoming woman driving the other vehicle, along with a passenger, were not hurt. Witnesses at the scene claim that the speed of the pickup may have contributed to the crash.
