ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Allegan County Food Pantry will close for good on October 2nd.
Officials made the closing announcement in a Facebook post this week, but did not give a reason.
They say the board of directors made the decision to shut down after “much thought and careful consideration.”
The Allegan County Food Pantry grew from being a small food-sharing effort about four years ago to having two eight-by-ten foot sheds and freezers and typically help two or three families a week.
Other providers are offering to step into the breach. Capt. Matt Winters, co-pastor with the Salvation Army of Holland, says his non-profit covers most of Allegan County, save for a few spots that are closer to Kalamazoo County.
Other groups ready to step into the breach include Hungry for Christ in Hamilton, Christian Neighbors in Plainwell, Fennville, and Wayland, as well as the Holland-based Community Action Agency’s Food Hub.
