HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 13, 2026) – A 22-year-old Holland man has been hospitalized after being hit while attempting to cross US-31 on foot at night on Holland’s North Side.
No names were mentioned by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Armstrong, as first responders were dispatched to the junction of the divided highway with James Street around 10:15 PM on Monday. It appeared that the man was trying to cross the northbound lanes when a SUV, driven by a 49-year-old Holland woman who had a green light, struck him in the crosswalk.
The man was taken to a “local hospital” in serious but stable condition, while the motorist was shaken but unhurt. The incident remains under investigation.
A number of pedestrians have been struck by vehicles while attempting to cross US-31 after dark in the Holland area over the years. The most recent incident occurred this past April, when a 62-year-old Holland man died at the intersection with East 24th Street, in similar circumstances to this matter.
