DAYTON, OH (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 21-year-old Holland woman, attending school at the University of Dayton, passed away over the weekend.
In an email sent to parents of UD students on Sunday afternoon, school president Eric Spina announced that Jillian Parker died in a bicycle accident on Saturday in the Dayton suburb of Trotwood. No details as to the circumstances that led to the incident were immediately disclosed.
According to the email, Ms. Parker was a visual arts major with minors in human rights studies and Spanish, and she was also active in the Moral Courage Project, an UD initiative that “aims to tell the stories of “upstanders” (those who refuse to be bystanders), and identify and celebrate individuals who take risks to make important contributions in their communities during moments of crisis.”
She had photos attributed to her during the 2018 Human Rights Day Vigil held by the UD Human Rights Center, and participated in the 2018 Dinner in the Desert Kitchen III: from Borders to Bridges held on campus.
An online group gathering for Ms. Parker was held on Sunday evening.
School President Spina added in the email, “Jillian is part of an extended UD alumni family and we extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to her family, friends, professors and our campus community.”
Funeral arrangements were not immediately finalized.
