Two Hope College men’s lacrosse players have been selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week: junior Luke Wieregno and sophomore Jack Balmforth.
Balmforth (Livonia, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) is the MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
Wierengo (Northville, Michigan / Northville) is the MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time in his career.
Balmorth recorded a .614 save percentage and a 8.5 goals-against average during two overtime games last week.
The sophomore goalkeeper totaled 13 saves and two ground balls during a 9-8 overtime victory against Oberlin College (Ohio) on Wednesday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
Balmorth totaled 14 saves and a season-high three ground balls during a 9-8 overtime loss at unbeaten Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Saturday.
Wierengo anchored Hope’s defense during two non-league matches.
The long-stick midfielder averaged 2.5 ground balls and 2.0 caused turnovers against Oberlin and Lake Forest.
