Hope College has qualified two women’s runners and one men’s runner for the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Indoor Championships this week.
Seniors Rebecca Markham and Eli Meder will join sophomore Sara Schermerhorn at the two-day meet on Friday-Saturday, March 8-9, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) is seeded fourth in the women’s 200 and eighth in the women’s 400 meters
Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) landed the 15th seed for the finals in the women’s 5,000 meters.
Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) is seeded ninth in the men’s 800 meters.
Twenty athletes per individual event and 12 in each relay qualified to compete at indoor nationals.
This is Schermerhorn’s second trip to indoor nationals after finishing 19th in the 200 meters as a freshman.
On Friday, Schermerhorn is scheduled to run in the 400-meter preliminaries at 3:05 p.m. and the 200-meter preliminaries at 4:15 p.m. Saturday’s finals are at 4:25 p.m. for the 400 meters and 5:30 p.m. for the 200 meters.
Schermerhorn’s seed time in the 200 meters is 24.53 seconds and 56.24 seconds in the 400 meters.
The 200’s top women’s seed is Kamiyah Wooten from North Carolina Wesleyan University at 24.19 seconds.
The 400’s top women’s seed belongs to Isabella Hogue from Nebraska Wesleyan University at 55.05 seconds.
This is Markham’s first trip to indoor nationals after a qualifying run of 17:03.63.
Markham is scheduled to run in the 5,000-meter final on Friday at 4:45 p.m. The top seed of 15:50.48 is Fiona Smith from St. Benedict University (Minn.).
This is Meder’s second trip to indoor nationals after placing 16th in the nation last season.
Meder qualified for the 800 meters with a run of 1:50.81. The top seed of 1:49.51 belongs to Michael Olson of Plymouth State University (N.H.).
Friday’s 800-meter preliminaries are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday’s final is set for 4:40 p.m.
