SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 11, 2024) – It should be an eventful Saugatuck City Council meeting on Monday evening.
The governing panel of that Lakeshore community is expected to cast decisive votes, on procedural second and final readings, a package of ordinance amendments that clarify and modify regulations dealing with short-term rentals. It includes changes in zoning, licensing, noise, policing, and a fee schedule. Council will also be asked to approve a resolution supporting state House Bill 5438, sponsored by first-term Democrat Joey Andrews of St. Joseph, that would codify short-term rental legislation in Michigan.
The other major item before council is the process for selecting a new City Manager to replace Ryan Heise, who stepped down last month due to a move to Minnesota. Mayor Lauren Stanton is asking council to approve retaining Walsh Municipal Services, at a fee no higher than $9,800, to help in the search process. In addition, council will vote on a weekly stipend for Ryan Cummins to continue a dual role as Director of Planning and Zoning, as well as being the Interim City Manager, until a new full-time operational leader is appointed.
The Saugatuck City Council’s biweekly business session is set for 7 PM in the second-floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
