HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 11, 2024) – It may cost a little more for municipal water in Holland after June 30th.
That’s if the Holland City Council concurs with Monday’s approval of the proposed Fiscal 2025 budget for the Holland Board of Public Works by the municipal utility’s board of trustees. The spending plan includes a 13 percent rate hike that General Manager Dave Koster says is necessary to provide adequate funding for capital debt service needs.
The utility wants to issue up to $10 million in bonds for what Koster calls critical infrastructure projects, including installing nearly nine thousand new water meters and advance metering infrastructure telemetry devices, constructing a 2,700-square foot chemical storage addition to the filter building at the Water Treatment Plant off of River Avenue, and slip lining about 3,200 feet of a 24-inch Lake Macatawa crossing water transmission line from the north corner of Park/Holland Township to the City of Holland’s south side of the lake.
In submitting his proposed BPW budget for the period from July 1st of 2024 to June 30th of 2025, Koster is proposing that rates for electricity, broadband and wastewater would remain steady. The board’s approval has sent the spending plan before the Holland City Council for a final decision.
