An afternoon ribbon-cutting ceremony formally opened the Holland Community Ice Park. It took about 18 months to build the $11.3 million complex off of East 6th Street and College Avenue, with a $1 million grant from philanthropist Frank Kraai, who was on hand when ground was broken in April of last year.
Kraai passed away nearly three months later at age 88.
Overseeing the building of the ribbon and adjacent curling sheet in the Window on the Waterfront Park complex was Assistant City Manager Matt Van Dyken.
The facility will be open for skating six days a week (closed on Mondays) through mid-March, depending on weather conditions. Open skating rates are $10 for a 90-minute session, with complimentary skate rental, while up to eight curlers can play for an hour and a half at fees of between $75 and $125, depending on date and time. Reservations for both activities are required through this online link.
