LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 21, 2025) – No railroad crossing is too small not to get state attention, as a proposed project north of Fennville can attest.
On Friday, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced 32 sites across the state will receive Local Grade Surface Program grants for railroad grade crossing repairs and improvements. One of those sites is where the Pere Marquette rail line goes over 130th Avenue near Mann Creek, east of the Old Allegan Road junction in Manlius Township.
All of the project sites receiving these competitive awards will get 60 percent funding from this grant, with the railroads responsible for the remainder, and will handle contracting for the work to be done. Local road agencies will provide detour routes during the length of these projects, which are slated for completion during 2026.
Also included among this 10th round of grant recipients is a rebuild of the same Pere Marquette rail line that crosses Wilson Avenue in downtown Grandville. In 2025, the Hamilton spur crossing at 50th Street was repaired through this program.
