OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 29, 2026) – Despite how the weather has been along the Lakeshore the past two weeks, the seasons will indeed change. However, one season that never seems to end is the scamming season.
Earlier this week, the City of Enterprise in Alabama warned residents about a new email scam. The sender would claim to be from the city, offering citizens a chance to apply for a HUD grant. Recipients are then asked to email their personal information. City officials say they don’t send grant applications through email and would never ask that business be done that way. Enterprise PD has been notified of the situation.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office will resume its Financial Scams Seminars series next month. During each of the three scheduled two-hour sessions, detectives will go over technology scams, social media risks, romance scams, government impersonators, grandchild scams, and more. Sheriff Eric DeBoer has experience working in the office’s fraud division as he was going up the ranks of his profession.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Financial Scams Seminars will all be held at 1 PM, in the main conference room of the county’s Administration Building at the Fillmore Street Complex (12220 Fillmore St.) in West Olive, on February 11th, February 25th, and April 7th. These sessions are free and open to the public, with no pre-registration required.
