HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 16, 2026) – Another millage proposal could be before some Lakeshore voters on the August 4th primary election ballot.
During Thursday evening’s biweekly business meeting, Holland Charter Township Trustees will be asked to approve putting a public safety levy renewal request on that ballot for voters to decide. The current 1.5 mill assessment expires at the end of 2026, with the new request raising that levy by a quarter of a mill to 1.75 mills through fiscal 2031.
Township Manager Steve Bulthuis, in a memo to the board ahead of this meeting, said that the costs of law enforcement, along with emergency and fire services, have grown since the current millage was approved, including the establishment of a 16-employee, full-time fire department, and expected increases in calls for service for both police and fire/rescue. The higher levy is projected to bring in up to $2 million by 2031.
The Holland Township Board of Trustees holds its 7 PM business meeting at Fire Station #1 (131 Riley St.). Public entities have until May 12th to submit ballot language to county clerks’ offices for August 4th ballot placement.
