OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 12, 2026) – A 26-year-old Traverse City man has been arraigned on charges stemming from a late Saturday afternoon truck theft in northeast Ottawa County, which ended with a police chase and subsequent crash near Nunica.
Connor Jack Mitchell was ordered held by Hudsonville District Court Judge Judy Mulder on $50,000 bond, after a Monday virtual hearing, on felony counts of unlawful driving away of an automobile, assault with a dangerous weapon, fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
Mitchell is accused of driving off with a pickup truck from the driveway of a residence in Chester Township, speeding away from an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputy attempting to pull him over in Spring Lake, smashing into a civilian vehicle and a Sheriff’s Office cruiser a short distance away, crashing through a roadblock on M-104 and M-231, and finally being stopped in a grove of trees east of that junction when he had encountered a bridge out situation, hitting another vehicle in the process. There were no injuries reportedly sustained by the suspect, any motorist, or deputy during this pursuit.
The entire incident remains under investigation.
