ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2026) – The month of May is National Bicycle Safety Month and law enforcement on all levels is urging drivers to be on the lookout for cyclists.
While some agencies are conducting enforcement operations targeting dangerous driving behaviors, including speeding, illegal turns, failure to yield, and running red lights or stop signs, others such as Capt. JP Damveld of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office are using public information efforts to spread the word about motor vehicles and two-wheeled bikes sharing the road.
Nationwide, more than eleven-hundred cyclists were killed and nearly 50-thousand injured in traffic crashes in 2023, according to federal data.
