ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 3, 2026) – A dining institution in downtown Zeeland may not be open for most of this summer.
A kitchen fire on April 18th forced Frank’s Restaurant off of East Main Avenue to close, as its unique “down-draft hood/exhaust” grill was destroyed, necessitating the installation of a new, updated system. There is no timetable as to when such work can be completed, so the eatery will be unable to prepare any fried food at the site.
Zeeland Mayor Rick Van Dorp is among many locals who are missing this staple of downtown life.
A limited menu of food prepared at the Farmhouse Restaurant a short distance away is available at the neighboring Frank’s East while repairs to the vintage diner continues.
