Eleanor Mae Wolters, age 94, of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Born on January 7, 1932, Eleanor lived a life rich in love, faith, and generosity, which she freely shared with all who crossed her path.
Eleanor was a charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church (now Foundation Church), where she expressed her unwavering faith through her incredible hospitality. Her home was a sanctuary for family, friends, and anyone in need of warmth and kindness. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed and loved, turning family dinners and holiday breakfasts into community celebrations where no one left without feeling like part of the family.
Eleanor went above and beyond for her family; if she saw a need she could fill, she would do it. Her commitment knew no bounds, as evidenced by her move to Iowa to care for a grandchild. Eleanor’s love echoed through the laughter of children and the joy of grandchildren. In addition to being a homemaker, Eleanor used her skills with numbers working in accounting at Du Mez Clothing Store in Downtown Holland as well as in accounting and supportive role at family businesses.
Eleanor was also an avid sports fan, passionately cheering for the Tigers and keeping her family engaged in friendly competition with her “perfect” NCAA tournament brackets. She was an even bigger fan of her children and grandchildren, attending countless games and performances.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Jan & Chuck Dokter, Sue & Scott Sluiter, Sandy & Mike Kapenga, Julie & Kevin Kammeraad; grandchildren: Kim & Jeff Darter, Katie & Tom NyKamp, Brian & Rachel Dokter, Matthew Sluiter, Emily & Steve Dozeman, Alex & Kristie Sluiter, Tim & Annabelle Sluiter, Lisa & Matt Gerrits, David & Wendi Kapenga, Amy & Jason Pierce, John & Christie Kapenga, Megan & Ryan DeVries, Daniel Kammeraad, Ross & Abby Kammeraad, Kelsey & Morgan Robinson, and Jacob Kammeraad; 37 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and cherished friends. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Warren in 2018, as well as her granddaughter Jessica Kammeraad in 1989.
