GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 12, 2026) – A 26-year-old Traverse City man’s stay in the Ottawa County Jail continues.
A preliminary hearing for Connor Mitchell on Wednesday was adjourned for about a week, as Hudsonville District Court Judge Judy Mulder has asked for a competency examination to determine if he is able to stand trial on 10 charges. Mitchell has been behind bars on $50,000 bond since his arrest on May 9th, following the theft of a pickup truck in Chester Township, followed by a subsequent crash-strewn pursuit through Spring Lake and Nunica.
No injuries were reported, but numerous vehicles were damaged during this entire incident, including several Ottawa County Sheriff’s Cruisers, according to Sheriff Eric DeBoer.
DeBoer added that his office is near its goal of having one deputy-one car through the community policing fund, in which municipalities who contract with the office for police services pay into.
