ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 17, 2026) – Federal funds to bring back what a spring storm tore down is coming to the Lakeshore.
Property owners in Allegan County who were affected by high winds and tornadoes on April 15th and 16th are able to apply for Emergency Forest Restoration Program funds through the US Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency’s office in Allegan. This cost-share effort will reimburse, at 75 percent or the lesser of the actual costs incurred, or allowable cost, up to $500,000, once restoration is complete.
The program aims to bring back non-industrial private forest land damaged by a qualifying natural disaster. The storm, which primarily affected the Otsego-Plainwell area in the county’s southeast corner, led Governor Whitmer to issue a state emergency declaration, and to ask Washington for a similar action on a federal level.
Applications for these Emergency Forest Restoration Program grants can be submitted through August 14th.
