HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 3, 2026) – American pride is hitting a 25-year low as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary.
According to a new Gallup survey, 33 percent of US adults say they are “extremely proud” to be an American, while 20 percent said they are “very proud.” It marks a significant decline compared to when Gallup first started tracking the metric in 2001, when it found that 55 percent of US adults said they were “extremely proud” to be American.
Rick Arnold, president of the West Michigan Chapter, Michigan Society of Sons of the American Revolution, says this year’s celebration can be used as a stimulus to re-ignite those patriotic passions of the past.
National pride appears to be divided by party as finding show 70 percent of Republicans are “extremely proud” to be American followed by 28 percent of independents and 14 percent of Democrats.
