LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 25, 2026) – Governor Whitmer has signed a bill that will double the state’s Brownfield Program from one-point-six-billion to three-point-two-billion-dollars.
A single transformational brownfield project can now capture up to 300-million-dollars in state tax revenue. Local municipalities utilize Brownfield designations to boost their tax base, according to Holland City Manager Keith Van Beek.
The bill is likely to give a boost to General Motors and Bedrock as they work to redevelop the mostly-vacant Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. GM moved its headquarters out of the RenCen complex early this year, leaving nearly 90-percent of it empty.
