GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 30, 2026) – Fixing the roads has been the mantra of the Gretchen Whitmer Administration during her eight years in the Governor’s Mansion.
On Tuesday, the County Road Association of Michigan disclosed results of its annual survey of the state’s 83 county road agencies. The 2025 County Road Progress Report found that 68 fewer miles of roads were improved last year versus 2024, a one percent decrease in improvements on the 90,000 miles of primary and local roads under county road agency jurisdiction. It was the first time in the 11 years of the canvassing in which the number of miles of roads improved decreased year-over-year.
However, things are changing, says Alex Doty of the Ottawa County Road Commission, thanks to changes the Legislature made in 2025 to how roads are funded in Michigan.
County Road Association officials believe that “big things” should be happening in 2027.
