HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 28, 2026) – Two persons have been charged in an animal hoarding case at a Holland residence.
On July 15th, Public Safety Police Services officers were dispatched to a residence in the area of East 17th Street and College Avenue after residents complained about a number of canines on the property, along with voicing concerns about the animals’ well-being. After officers confirmed what was reported by the residents, a search warrant was sought and obtained. A week later, 25 dogs and a cat were removed and taken to the Harbor Humane Society complex in West Olive for treatment.
In a statement, Harbor Humane officials said that several of the animals were suffering from significant ailments stemming from neglect, and that over $33,000 has been spent thus far for their care since the time of their removal. Some of the animals are now available for adoption, with arrangements with other shelters and rescue operations for those who do not find “forever homes.”
The owners of the residence and of the animals, identified by Public Safety as Roger Lee Turling and Joyce Kraai, were arrested and charged with several animal cruelty counts. According to Harbor Humane officials, the two pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors in exchange for a felony charge being dropped, although no word was disclosed as to a sentence in the case.
