PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2026) – It was part education, part advocacy on Monday afternoon at Holland State Park.
Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer made a presentation promoting the benefits of Project B.E.A.C.O.N – Business, Education, Agriculture and Community Operational Network. It would include various technological tools such as drones, surveillance systems, advanced analytics and tools, and more in an effort to improve emergency response time.
This was an effort by the sheriff to drum up financial support for the project, which would cost several million dollars, a price tag the county cannot foot itself at this time.
Second-term Democratic Congresswoman Hillary Scholten of Grand Rapids is behind the effort.
County officials are looking for state and federal grants to help fund the initiative.
