LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 25, 2026) – Unemployment continues to stay relatively steady along the Lakeshore and across the state last month.
In not seasonally-adjusted numbers from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, disclosed on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, joblessness in August stood at four percent even in Ottawa County, and 3.9 percent in Allegan County. Those jobless levels have remained consistent throughout this summer, and it’s down a tenth of a percentage point in both cases from July’s marks, while a year ago, those figures stood at 4.6 percent in each county.
State officials say that 59 of the 83 counties in Michigan had lower unemployment rates in August; 16 of 18 major labor markets saw dips in joblessness; and both employment and workforce levels were down for the month and for the year.
