HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 2, 2026) – A 36-year-old Holland woman has been formally charged in the Tuesday night death of a 62-year-old Holland woman.
Rajinder Kaur was arraigned on Thursday in 58th District Court on a count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and is free on $25,000 bond. She was arrested following a collision at the intersection of Butternut Drive and James Street on Holland’s North Side, in which witnesses claim that Kaur had driven her SUV through a red light and slammed into a Jeep that was attempting a turn.
The crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Maria Acevedo Venegas, who was a passenger in the Jeep, while her 62-year-old husband Jose Acevedo was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in serious condition. A 22-year-old woman driving the Jeep was also injured, while a one-year-old boy in her vehicle, along with Kaur, were not hurt.
A GoFundMe page established for Mrs. Acevedo Venegas was nearly three quarters of the way towards an $11,000 goal.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says more charges against the accused may be forthcoming. Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer.
