Born on September 17, 1949, in Muskegon, Michigan, Tom was the son of the late Henry and Mary Ziemba. He graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1967 and continued his education at Muskegon Community College, earning two associate degrees in 1969. He later attended Western Michigan University, where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.
Throughout his professional life, Tom was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. After holding several positions early in his career, he spent 20 years with Haworth before joining Steelcase, where he continued working until his retirement in 2014.
Tom will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He had a genuine commitment to his family and community, coaching his sons’ youth sports teams and teaching young players the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. He also devoted his time to scouting, serving as a Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout committee member, and Scoutmaster. Whether spending time with loved ones or giving back to others, Tom approached life with a caring and generous spirit.
Tom married Karen Fielding on June 29, 2009. Together, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and making lasting memories. For 10 years, they spent their winters in the Venice, Florida, area, a tradition Tom eagerly anticipated each year, especially for the sunshine, fresh seafood, and oysters.
Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. While he devoted countless hours to both pursuits, his success in the field and on the water was often limited, though that never dampened his enthusiasm. He found just as much enjoyment sitting in the sunroom, watching the deer, turkeys, and other wildlife wander through the yard. Tom also had a passion for classic muscle cars and enjoyed attending car shows, where the vintage automobiles brought back fond memories of years gone by.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen; his son, Brian (Holly) Ziemba of Muskegon; his sisters, Barbara (Mark) Achterhof and Joan Dillon; and his former wife and friend, Margaret Ziemba, mother of their sons Brian and Aaron, along with their extended families.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Ziemba; his sister, Susan Marie; and his beloved son, Aaron Thomas, whom he carried in his heart always.
While he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In accordance with Tom’s wishes, no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his memory.
