GAYLORD, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2026) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is making changes in deer hunting for 2026.
Following a nine-hour meeting in Gaylord on Wednesday, the DNR’s seven-member panel approved a one buck rule, a shorter muzzleloader season, starting the late anterless firearm season earlier, and combining the Liberty Hunt with the early anterless season, ending a January hunt for whitetails.
Noted outdoorsman Mike Avery stresses the importance of deer harvests, especially in the Lower Peninsula.
The Mike Avery Outdoor Magazine program can be heard every Sunday morning from 5-8 AM on WHTC Holland’s Cool FM.
