HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 1, 2026) – A request for aiding a Holland-area family going through sudden grief is underway.
On Wednesday, a GoFundMe page was established for Maria Acevedo Venegas, a 62-year-old woman who was killed in a Tuesday evening crash. She was a passenger in a Jeep that collided with a SUV at the intersection of Butternut Drive and James Street. Her husband, 62-year-old Jose Acevedo, was airlifted to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in serious condition, while a 22-year-old woman driving the Jeep, along with a one-year-old boy, were also injured.
The driver of the SUV, a 36-year-old Holland woman, wasn’t hurt, and while the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed this, the GoFundMe posting claims that she was a “drunk driver” who “ran a red light at high speed.” Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
