ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 2, 2026) – The owner of a Lakeshore communications firm has died.
Les Lanser passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. He purchased WJBL-FM radio in 1983 from Peter VandenBosch, changed the call letters to WJQK, and converted the programming from country music to adult Christian music. Mr. Lanser subsequently acquired an AM station, changing its call letters to WPNW, and it currently runs a similar music format.
No cause of death was disclosed. Visitation, along with a memorial service, for Mr. Lanser is slated for this coming Saturday morning, August 8th, at Christ Memorial Church, with burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are through the Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home.
